SMECO is an electric cooperative owned by its members. They provide electricity to over 160,000 consumers in Maryland, particularly in the southern Prince George’s County, St. Mary’s County, Charles County, and others.
It all started in 1935 when there were only a few people residing in Southern Maryland and no commercial electric power company provided them with electricity. As a result, the residents formed SMECO. In case there is an excess income, it will be given to its members.
Co-ops are owned by customers and they also elect their own Board of Directors. Co-ops will give capital credits to their members. This is the member’s share of the co-op’s profit. In the case of SMECO, the Board of Directors will determine if capital credits will be given to its members. Usually, it will be credited to their electric bills or a check will be issued to them.
SMECO Bill Pay Options
There are a lot of ways of paying your SMECO bill. You can choose the one that is more convenient for you.
SMECO One Time Bill Pay
If you want to make a one-time bill payment then follow these steps:
Step One: Go to SMECO one time bill pay. Enter your SMECO account number. Then click Submit.
You can find your account number at the top portion of your SMECO bill.
Step Two: You have to verify your account information by entering the first 5 digits of your billing zip code. Then click Submit.
Step Three: Now, you can view your SMECO account.

Step One: Go to SMECO coop bill pay and click AutoPay.
Step Two: Before you can proceed, you have to enroll in the AutoPay program. Simply click AutoPay program.
Step Three: You will be redirected to Enroll with SMECO AutoPay. Enter your SMECO account number. Then click Submit.
Step Four: Enter your zip code then click submit. You are now enrolled in autopay.
